Our 2016 Annual Forum
We were pleased to host our Annual Forum on Wednesday 12 October 2016. This year’s forum, opened by our Medical Director Professor Yves Heloury, highlighted an international and local perspective on late effects of childhood cancer. We were privileged to host international keynote speaker Dr Kevin Oeffinger. Dr Oeffinger is the Director of the Cancer Survivorship Center and the Adult Long Term Follow-up Program at Memorial Sloan Kettering in New York. In addition to providing health care to cancer survivors, Dr Oeffinger is a National Cancer Institute supported independent investigator leading studies to better understand long-term health problems related to cancer and its treatment. Dr Oeffinger’s keynote address focused on sustaining cure and improving quality of life. Following Dr Oeffinger, Dr Peter Downie, our Long Term Follow-up Program Medical Director presented a local perspective, with a focus on the model and outcomes of our statewide survivorship service. Finally, our Program Manager Jane Williamson presented an overview of our goals for the next year.
This year’s forum was a great success. We would like to thank the more than 100 people who attended from the Victorian Government, partner health services and support groups, as well as the parents and families of children and adolescents who have had a cancer diagnosis who attended.
